I have been thatching since 1991. I first got involved with thatching during my time as an Art Student at Nuneaton & North Warwickshire College when I used to help my uncle, Joe Wykes, an experienced and award-winning Master Thatcher, in the Summer Holidays. I laid my first bundle of straw when I was seventeen.
After studying an H.N.D. in Design and Communication Model Making at the University of Sunderland which included; Product Design , Architectural Models, Stage Sets, and spending two years making models while completing my H.N.D., I decided to take up thatching full-time. I discovered that I preferred and enjoy working outdoors. I have not looked back since.
Thatching gives me a lot of satisfaction and has tested my creative and architectural skills over the years. My Uncle Joe and I won many awards during the time that I worked for him.
I set up my own business - Lee Miller Thatcher Ltd in 2007.
I approach every thatched roof as if it was my own and take great pride in my work and the tradition of thatching. I am currently training an apprentice, in very much the same way as my Uncle Joe passed on his skills and knowledge to me.
All roofs are completed to the highest standards, with the best possible materials.
